ben solo is a slytherin , just like his uncle luke before him . his grandfather and grandmother , anakin and padme were in gryffindor and ravenclaw respectively. his mother was a gryffindor , and his father han , is a muggle who runs a business operation out of america . leia , is a highly respected wizarding auror and high in the MOM . due to leia’s dual citizenship thanks to her grandmother padme , ben is offered a chance to attend hogwarts . his magic presents at an early age and is extremely volatile . he lives with luke for several weeks at a time while he father is on business and his mother is attending to important business with the mom. his patronus is a huge , mastiff he’s affectionately nick named chewie . his mothers family friend obi-wan had taken in anakin as a child and therefore anakin was allowed to attend hogwarts as well in his youth . after graduating with decently high marks , he heads to work as an auror but is quickly delegated to the unspeakables as his knack for dark magic allows him to handle things other cannot . it’s after this that he’s propositioned to become a double agent , to infiltrate a new up and coming voldemort loyalist , snoke . he gets wrapped up in a double life and finds himself being torn apart by both sides .

so casual ,,,,,,,,,, modern verse background information , for what i would consider a very ……………… like ‘catch all’ modern verse & will be using for all modern interactions likely .warnings for ; s/ex trafficking / , abuse / , death / , drugs / , blackmail /i’m willing to write w/ any muses in this verse , just let me know where’d you’d fit .side notes : in this verse , ben’s grandfather anakin is the reason that leia and luke are so vehemently involved in bringing down organizations . anakin , a child from the streets surviving on spite , determination and making his living from carrying drugs was taken in by obi-wan kenobi , a straight edge mentor with ties to the law ( fbi ) . through obi-wan , anakin met padme , an activist for women rights and fighting to break down the crime infiltrating through cities by going after dirty politicians . anakin unable to escape the control of his past gang affiliations was given the option of continuing to work for them or they’d kill padme , his now fiance . during a stint gone wrong , anakin killed padme while out of his mind on drugs which were put in his drink earlier without his knowledge – padme died but obi-wan finding them , was able to get her medical help before the twins were lost . anakin overdosed and leading both his children to develop strong dedications to eradicating crime and t/rafficking from their streets. it’s unknown but implied that anakin was likely taken as a trafficked child himself as his mother shmi was never found .obi-wan incapable of taking care of twins / not allowed by the state due to lack of legitimacy as a ‘blood’ kin , etc. owen lars agree to take both twins but by the early age of six , leia was already showing immense academic skills , and bail organa , who had been visiting the children and helping owen when he was able , asked to take her in as his wife and he could not bear children and they would be honored to send her to the finest schools and prepare her as best they could . luke , taking a shine to the country life , rather than school , went a different route , investing his time in criminal justice and studying what made people tick while living a rather quiet life out of the limelight . leia , not wanting her skywalker legacy to taint her chances at political success , took the name organa at an early age , legally changing it long before taking any position of power .infamous undercover cop han solo , who single-handedly disbanded two major crime organizations with ties to drugs and se/x t/rafficking after infiltrating them as a smuggler for nearly 10+ years after his rags to riches story in which he put himself through the academy after living on the streets most of his life . wildly popular and inspiring leia organa , who met han solo while captured during a political stint in which she attempted to bring down the ‘empire’ by putting herself into their gang territory and was captured , only to be taken by jabba , the ring leader . obi-wan had invested his time in helping them with anything he could , becoming a mentor and respected figure to both twins . leia , after being captured is able to get one last message out to obi-wan requesting help , to which he is able to get luke involved which eventually leads to her being saved . her brother luke , a private detective went to the authorities and together devised a plan to get han solo close enough to save leia & get the intel to bring down the crime ring . han and leia had a rocky , on again off again relationship , into which obi-wan benjamin organa-solo was born .ben solo , grew up with very little emotional support . with his father han , working largely either away from home or undercover after being promoted to a government job ( ben isn’t sure what but thinks it must be something like a spy , or handler ) and his mother , involved in her own extremely busy and important life , he was left largely relying on house staff to care for him . beyond this , he was introduced to his uncle luke at the age of 13 when his mother found him after punching a hole in his wall . while not the first time he’d broken something on purpose , it was the first time he admitted that the action made him feel relief . fearing , wrongly , that her son could be exhibiting similar tendencies to her father , she sent him away to be luke , hoping that getting him away from the city would help .through luke , ben solo made contact with a persona via email known as ‘snoke’. after being emotionally and physically blackmailed through photos of ben altered to appear as though he were committing crimes , and threats they would hack his internet profiles he was sufficiently scared enough to do what they asked . things started out small , deliver this to so and so , show up here and say this , but became more and more unsettling - have this girl call this number , get her to meet you at the bar but don’t worry about showing up. one night , a message appeared on his phone while he was sleeping with a address and a code word . luke , having been hunting snoke for sometime , assumed the worst , and tried to take ben in , who attacked him , knocking him unconscious and running for his life .ben solo was known as code name kylo ren from ages 13 - 29 , working for snoke when forced to , and using his cover as an accountant at a corrupt firm to make money and stay off the radar from his family . ages 21-24 , ben solo tries to leave , running away twice , once he is beaten and left with a scar from eyebrow to chest as a reminder that he is owned by the company . ages 25-29 , ben has completely taken on the moniker of kylo ren , hardly remembering anything of his family or his past. age 29 , kylo ren meets rey.my canon has 3 forks here .if rey is a kenobi , then she is obi-wan’s daughter (out of wed lock or accident or something), or she’s adopted later on , etc. and she is working for the police , investigating the crimes of t/rafficking and / or the corruption in the accounting firm. she could also be captured - but either way , he meets her and tries a second time to break free of snoke.if rey is a palpatine , then she works for snoke as well , either willingly or unwillingly like ben . when they’re put together either via a heist / etc . they realize together they can escape , they can save one another as she’s likely be indoctrinated since birth into the ring.if rey is a nobody , then it’s likely she’s been either captured / somehow involved with the ring / or she could just simply fall into ben’s life somehow , as someone from the office , or just as a random person . again , he would try to escape again after meeting her .xxi. ‹ modern ‚ devils advocate . ›
lawyer ben solo working unknowingly for a corrupt firm
tl;dr. ben is a lawyer working for an old family friend snoke . after finding out snoke was throwing cases based on who paid the most , ben threatened to out him and found himself mugged and put in the hospital . he couldn’t prove anything and is now working while fearing for his life constantly . post accident he suffers a nasty scar , pre accident he’s very conflicted , post rey entering his life , he is able to get snoke convicted with a murder penalty for crimes that come to light later .ben is an average child , interested in the same things as most boys ; running , playing and fighting . he takes after his uncle luke when it comes to athletics , a natural gymnast , he uses this to excel fencing , football and track . in school he takes great interest in writing and art , going so far as to take latin as his elective . he graduates high school and takes a track scholarship he doesn’t need to university .ben starts university pursuing journalism before being encouraged by a family friend to look into law school as a profession . shortly after , ben decides law school might be for him . leia encourages the path and tells him it would be a great help if he intends to follow her path into politics . han jokes it’ll save him a lot of money in the long term if a deal goes south . ben is a great study and advances quickly to the top of his class , excelling with honors .ben graduates and immediately takes an internship with snoke , who treats him well and gives him high profile cases . incredibly ben wins all of them . something he chalks up to beginner luck . after his first year , snoke gives him an incredible nice contract with a bonuses and penthouses to boot . he signs on with a smile .ben is sent an anoymous letter that snoke is throwing cases and illegally planting evidence to win those he shouldn’t . innocent people are going to prison - or worse - the death penalty , and ben HELPED unknowingly . after doing his own recon he concludes the letter is true and confronts snoke , intending to call the police . coincidentally ben is mugged that knife , and sliced open by a red haired man who tells him to thank his god that he’s only been asked maim him .ben returns to work and snoke offers him a welcoming smile , one that hides the sharp teeth that would rather bite out ben’s throat . ben is paranoid and can’t tell if his memory is right or not . did the man really say those things or was that the trauma talking ?eventually ben meets rey who helps him gather evidence , and snoke is taken down and sentenced to death for his crimes . ben , still sufering from ptsd and night terrors retires early to the country side , taking on a new name and hiding from any journalists that might want to make a quick buck off his story.

a lost boy , who never found neverland .
Trained in the ways of the jedi knights, ben was seduced to the dark side through telepathic manipulation and abuse . unable to fend off his predator and feeling unable to confide or trust in his family he was overtaken by the darkside . At 29 years old , he is still extremely childlike , not learning how to cope with his anger, fear or feelings . Due to this he may be extremely volatile in new situations. Ben is very intelligent . He is capable of speaking several languages, writing in several , including ancient jedi scripts , and collecting items others may deem unusual - such as vintage calligraphy sets , etc. However, Ben is also very violent towards himself. Learning to control his emotions through physical pain and the darkside. Due to this, under duress he will physically injure himself to gain clarity. When attempting to cope as a child with his LEGACY, he creates the alias , SKYWALKER SOLO - Skylo. When Snoke finally forces his hand, alienating him from his family he has him take on a moniker. Ben chooses Kylo.

A COMPLEX CHARACTER.
He cannot be viewed as entirely bad or good. As with all complex and human characters there is bad and there is good in him. Both sides continuously battling for control and power. His will is not always his own, there is mind control, there are pressures beyond him, etc. Kylo Ren was mentally manipulated and brainwashed by palpatine & snoke for his young developmental years and Luke’s own fatal flaw of weakness towards Kylo is what gave him the push into the descent in darkness. he fought against the dark up until tai was killed and from their his hope was lost until he met rey.A VICTIM OF ABUSE .
At the hands of his parents verbally, emotionally, but never physically, of Luke emotionally, and physically, of Snoke mentally, emotionally, and physically, as well as of himself. Ben Solo is his own worst enemy. The way he talks to himself internally, his inner voice is one of negativity, self loathing, and self deprecation. He believes becoming dark or 'a sith' will somehow help him to become more but it only serves to isolate him and create deep , terrible , thoughts and feelings within him. he is not saved until rey helps his connection to the light grow.A JEDI & A SITH.
Ben is a gray jedi. After the force awakens Rey he begins to find himself in the middle. Using both anger and hatred as well as longing and love to fuel his abilities. He finds himself somewhere in the middle. He will and must atone for his transgressions against humanity but he is not and has never been a sith nor has he ever truly become a jedi either.BEN SOLO HAS GREAT CONTROL OF HIS FORCE ABILITIES .
He’s a wonderfully adept force user. He has been trained under not only Luke but under Snoke. Both have taught him the ways of the force though in very different ways. He’s also of Vader’s bloodline and has learned to hone the force to his will. He is so talented that he can sense shifts in space and dimension and it gives him the ability to stop laser fire before it reaches him. As mentioned in THE RISE OF KYLO REN comic, he is infinitely stronger and more adept than any other padawan.MENTAL HEALTH .
It's bad. He is not someone who copes in any healthy way whatsoever. He rarely smokes or drinks in canon, regarding his body as a temple. However, he is mentally very low. He suffers from depression, PTSD, night terrors, and during the worst of Snoke’s reign he breaks from reality where he finds it hard to know what’s conjured by Snoke and what’s real. This occurs off and on until Snoke is finally killed.BEN IS ENAMOURED WITH REY .
And not just because she’s beautiful. He’s enamored with her personality, her hard edges and the way she defies him. He’s also taken by the fact that she is of the force. That she is his equal, something he has never had. After sharing their moments, Rey gains his fighting style but Kylo gains her memories, even ones she’s long since locked away from herself. It gives him a form of sympathy towards her as well as creating a more empathetic bond between them that makes him feel more personally responsible for her well being and for their connection. He does not love her until she heals him , removing his scars and giving him part of her life force. He realizes that she is truly selfless and cares for him. This gives him the strength and courage to move into the light fully.KYLO REN WILL NEVER COMPLETELY FORGIVE LUKE UNTIL MUCH LATER .
Luke is the reason his life became so confusing. While it is not fair to blame Luke as Palpatine was behind everything, Kylo does - even after he understands Snoke and Palptaine were using him and his family as pawns. Kylo does not forgive Luke until he is near his death. Releasing this anger and finding true peace is what allows him to become a force ghost.KYLO REN HAS BUILT VADER UP IN HIS HEAD AS A COPING MECHANISM .
Leia and Luke have all told Kylo of their father and of everything that happened. However, for Kylo he sees Vader as more like himself. Someone who was self made and overcame his past. Kylo, doesn’t however, have a lot of self awareness, and due to his young age doesn’t realize the irony of a rich spoiled socialite relating to a young, enslaved, poor boy, who lost his mother and life at a young age. There’s no real reason for Kylo to worship Vader but he does. Vader becomes so DEEPLY INTERTWINED in BENS PSYCHE as a coping mechanism that Snoke begins to speak through Ben’s mind as Vader, adding to the layers of abuse and confusion Kylo suffered through. It takes many years after his battle with Palpatine and with Rey's help to uncover and unwind what is reality from fiction regarding Vader.BEN SOLO IS KYLO REN AND KYLO REN IS BEN SOLO.
There is no if, and, or but. You have to have both to have the other. Rey understands this. Kylo does not, until she gives him part of her life force.KYLO REN , IS HUMAN . AND EVERY ACTION HAS ITS REASON . VALID OR NOT .
